Consider the WTC bombing. It's taken years for the resultant suppression of constitutional rights to significantly impact the individual.
U r.insane.something occurs on national level we'd get less than 24 hrs, I point u not.to something that happened to a city on 911, but more accurately look at places that a pending hurricane is headed a week BEFORE it hits stores struggle to get basics in stock.

Something like what OP projects happens it wud b on news right away and stores wud b gutted, and when corporate America shutz down there's no refilling those shelves.

I'd say the only thing that might cause an immediate reaction like this is a full-out homefront military strike on our soil or an all-encompassing natural disaster of some kind. Other than that, it's going to be a decay situation rather than a "blitzkrieg."

Now, if there were a 1929 style run on the banks or something... well, I could see that happening. But even at that, the "ripple effect" took some time after the run on the banks.

Personally, I'd just press on as normal, while being a bit more cautious about my spending and consumption (not tuberculosis! Consumption of goods and supplies). I'd just make sure everything was in order and all my ducks were in a row as best I could.

That's really all most of us can do. Some are much more prepared than others, but the idea that the typical "prepper" or survivalist has a nuke-proof bomb shelter compound in the mountains is, for the most part, myth.

Now, is there a time that I would high-tail it into the desert? Sure. But again, I'm counting on some warning and gradual decay more so than an overnight thing. That looks like the way things are shaping up. Of course, I could be wrong. But so be it. Someone has to be right and someone has to be wrong about such matters. Just take your best educated guess and hope it is correct.

Yeah. SHTF and somebody is going to come to this website, get my user name, research it in an attempt to get my address and come rob my safe? lol

Following a SHTF, anybody intent on raiding will be hitting their neighbors and the stores close by.

I don't go telling my neighbors about my preparations, and I'm not on some dumb tv show sharing the location of my bug-out site. I'm "Pedro" on a forum.

BTW, if raiding me is your SHTF plan, you'd better get a new plan.

Just for the record, there is no debt ceiling. When they run out of money...and they will because of poor legislation, you better be armed and stocked for the long haul. Because when the people who are used to getting their government freebies don't get it, they will be looking to steal it anywhere they can.

I am going to load up the kids and supplies and go to relatives that live in more isolated parts of the States. Bigger cities will be a death trap for mobs. I feel it will gradually build and not be an overnight thing.

No, I haven't forgotten. But it seems you have.

Here's a reminder: Self-Sufficiency and Preparedness

Do you see "doomsday" or "nukes" within that title? I don't. If you do, perhaps you need to check your glasses.

I see the term "Self-Sufficiency" in the title, though. Now unless you are a nuclear physicist, what does "nukes" have to do with Self-Sufficiency? Little House on the Prairie is closer to self-sufficiency than your nukes. Stop watching doomer porn.

We all know that the current media lumps everyone that attempts to provide some security for themselves as Doomsday Preppers, and those stupid tv shows only heighten the misconception.

Lots of people, especially in urban areas, look to anyone that differs from the mainstream conceptions as unusual or strange, maybe even dangerous.

You can your own food? What are you? Some kind of doomday nut?
You have a freezer for bulk meat? What are you? Some kind of doomday nut?
You raise a vegetable garden so you don't go to the "whole foods store"? What are you? Some kind of doomday nut?

You have a generator? What are you? Some kind of doomday nut?
You buy silver? What are you? Some kind of doomday nut?
You have a gun? What are you? Some kind of doomday nut?

Ignorance can be a dangerous thing.

But on the first day that food or power or water become scarce, for whatever reason, who do the masses come looking for? The folks that have some provisions set by for their families.
When that happens, do they still say, "What are you? Some kind of doomday nut?"
