Any vet can use the urgent care at the VA as long as he is registered in the system. but in his situation he should have no problem.

I said shortly after, in another post, that the VA would be much better. I just thought maybe he needed money now (tomorrow) so that he could eat. One month to pay back gives him a little time to get a job or figure something out. But I did basically retract this idea in another post like 5 minutes later.

Easier for a single Man to be Homeless, there is many Shelters that will help find a way of making enough to live, provide a Roof, Food and Address. At least this is what I've found in cities in Missouri.

I know this won't help but when I about found my self in this situation had a place to go on small Lot, cost $500 for the Lot put a Shelter on for $2000, Electric $350 to hook up, Wood Stove, was good to go. As matter fact still have the place with another Lot. Close to a Lake I still use it for Hunting and Fishing Cabin.

Don't tell anyone you are homeless unless you have to. Keep using the old address until you can set up a private mailbox. There should be some kind of privately run postal business like the UPS store that can get you a mail box. I found one in Seattle that was unaffiliated. They had a real street address, which is better still. Then have your mail forwarded to it.

Look for a temp agency for work. Also the state government where you live should have some kind of work search program.

Try to find a hostel or a boarding house that you can live in week to week. They are okay, the cheapest renting I know of. If you have a lot of stuff, put it in storage.

If you don't have a bank account, get a Greendot card or something like it. Walgreen's sells them. Works just like a checking account without checks, but with a debit card VISA. You can get direct deposit on it and then there's no charge if you have enough transactions or deposit enough each month. You will once you get a job again. It's been my main account for two years now.

If you don't have a cellphone, get a voicemail box that you can give to contacts for messages. It's harder now there are almost no payphones left, but it's an option.

The toughest part for you is not having a car. I lived in mine for a few months when I did all this. If there's any way you can come up with one that'll make this easier.

If there isn't any of this around you then move to a larger city. Even if you have to hitch hike. If you live in the north, move south ASAP. Winter's coming.

Agreed. Those "payday loans" and money in advance type schemes prey on low income and low IQ people and there are actually people out there fighting to ban them and make those practices illegal.

What part of the country are you in? Have you tried going to Goodwill, Saint Vincent De Paul, Catholic Charities, etc. for help?

Have you checked with the Dept. of Human Service? I know several people who have been or currently are homeless. They went through the DHS and qualified for a program where they work at a place (the DHS gives them a list of participating employers to choose from) for 6 months. During that 6 months you are paid by the employer, and then the employer is reimbursed by DHS. At the end of the 6 month period, the employer can choose to keep you on or not. Even if they don't, you still have 6 months worth of work as well as something to put on your resume and an opportunity to network with people and gain new experience. It has worked well for the people I know. This is in Oregon, I don't know if all states do this or not.

Also, see if there are volunteer opportunities you can get involved in. I know what you're probably thinking... you need a JOB and you don't have time to volunteer... but even volunteering a few hours a week can actually help you get a job. It's how I got my current job. I started out volunteering 4 hours a week and when there was an opening I expressed interest and they hired me. It happens a lot evidently as most of the people I work with now started out as a volunteer. Also volunteering is a great way to network and also it tends to pick your spirits up. You gotta try your best to keep a positive attitude. Helpings others helps.

You should try to get a P.O. Box. The last time we rented one you had to have a home address in order to get one... I don't know if that applies everywhere. But you'll need an address and if you are still in your home right now you might want to get a P.O. Box just in case.

Find yourself a small easy to set-up and pack down tent, warm sleeping bag, backpack, good walking boots, and a reusable bottle of water. Don't wait until you are already out there and suddenly need those things. Also a warm hat, warm leather gloves, coat, etc. Like another poster said winter is coming and it's no joke.

Might want to find a place to shower and shave, too. I know in my town we have a place for homeless people as well as travelers. You pay like 5 bucks or something or buy a punch card and you can shower and shave so you can look nice for job interviews, etc.

Good luck.

Food - soup kitchens and emergency food stamps - and the social services can often help with the housing issue

housing - homeless shelter - contact the PD if you don't know of any

VA - not only for medical but they have a social services for vets - you'd need to go to the nearest full service VA, not the satellite offices.

Good luck to you - and thank you for your service.

It's a forum and the one thing I've learned is you never know who is making that post. They could be a total
scam artist and another soft person from the forum may take the bait and offer to send money/help etc.

I've scene it happen, but like i said I'll give the benefit of the doubt for now...still waiting to hear back from
the OP..Time will tell..It's the Net and who the heck knows who your really communicating with..
