If it ever gets to a point like this, the whole economy will have to change.

That's really besides the point, it's the ability to mimic human intelligence and learn. At some point they will exceed the abilities of the average programmer and no longer need you either. The only people programming will be developing better AI.
This is a very long way off.

Exactly but on the other hand if robots are doing all the work why do you need money in the first place?

It's going to be some interesting times in the next 100 years. While I'm very much conservative I do not see how society can transform without some substantial shifts to socialism .

Wevie this is exactly what Watson does. It operates very much like a human including the learning part. It may not be true AI in the sense it is self aware but it most certainly can mimic human intelligence. We're just at the forefront of this, if this was last century Watson is going to be a very expensive one off car. That model T is coming soon.

This is so true.

I'm far more scared of all the Indians that are infiltrating all of our I.T. jobs. I need at least a few more years at my job to finish out my 401k, but it doesn't look like I'll get it.

I just turned 56, and at my age, if I lose my job this year, I have next to NO chance to get another I.T. job in Michigan that pays anything close to what I make now.

Fortunately, you have two options: work from home or move. Either are a good possibilities in the field.

The good news is that these killer robots will still be affected by physics; primarily high velocity, kinetic weapons and good old fashioned explosives. They will not take over the planet, this is not a movie...
