Solar panels are everywhere in Australia, very common.
However no one RELIES on them as such.
All houses are connected to the grid and I believe you can get credits if you feed your own excess solar into the grid.
Be warned however, solar panels do NOT last forever, Im sure the technology is improving daily but back when I worked with them they had approx. 10 year lifespan.

When our family decided to install solar panels, we made a real research first and had numerous consultations with our Solar Panels Company and now we should admit that it is just what we were expecting. However, I think that winters are different in different places and there are other factors that influence the efficiency. So, we all need to take such details into consideration.
