They still put their lives in harms way.
And often- even in those situations we think are egregiously wrong from the getgo- they do this in order to protect their fellow servicemen and women as well.

So, we probably should thank every soldier for protecting their lives and the lives of other soldiers... For showing our strength in the world... and for many other things. Maybe even for bringing our freedom to the world. But probably, not for defending our freedom. I'll thank ACLU and NRA for that.
