Hi - I'm doing an hour seminar on the topic, "Fight Your Way Home," at our local survival store soon.
What would you guys suggest I include in the discussion?
We have already covered things like bug out bags and survival weapons so this will concentrate more on tactics than equipment. Assumptions will focus on having a BOB and appropriate weaponry, most likely an everyday carry handgun. The premise would be ways to deal with getting home both locally in town or nearby towns about 40 miles away, and from our regional city about 100 miles away. I plan discussion around both having access to a personal vehicle, or appropriated vehicles, and also if one has to "hoof it," due to an EMP event.
I have a pretty good idea what I want to cover but I'd appreciate any suggestions you all have.
Thanks
You anticipate the need to 'fight' to get "home both locally in town or nearby towns about 40 miles away, and from our regional city about 100 miles away" ?
If I did that today, it is not a sure bet I would even meet another vehicle on the road.

Do you expect to see Mad Max sometime soon?
Or maybe 'The Revenant'.
or for the older set, 'The Warriors'.
Or why the reason to go home. If it is a SHTF situation and you already have plans in place, do you go to a safe area first to see if anyone is there? Going home might be a wasted trip.

Sorry, a couple of folks seemed to miss the part about giving a seminar. Interesting point though about, "do you even need to go home?" True, in a shtf situation home might not even be there anymore. While the majority of us probably don't have, can't afford bug out bunkers, a secondary alternative is worthwhile. And a rally point for relatives with a secondary rp.

Which brings up a very important item, intelligence. Be it home, a secondary rally point, an alternative safe-house; which one to go to or avoid requires knowledge of what is happening at each location. Most often, something as simple as a portable radio, good binoculars, and patience are the only tools you have to gather intelligence on your route and destination. Knowing how to observe and interpret what is happening goes a long way in survival.
I believe most people are destine to go home because so much of their resources and planning is geared towards the home being the starting point and where they will be when something occurs. Unfortunately, be it a SHTF, natural or hazardous event that requires action, nobody can predict where they will be at the moment the event occurs, so preparing for "bugging out" when you are already "Out" is smart planning and preparedness.

Hey folks - just wanted to thank you for your input. My class was well received tonight, and packed the facility! We covered everything from "Get Home Bags" to avoiding ambushes on the road. Discussed ways to know when the SHTF (when 911 stops responding...) getting home from various distances and the different needs and challenges. Or whether you should even go home at all.
And yes, I mentioned bicycles.
My next class will be more current events oriented - "How to Kill the Active Shooter!"

Nope - but CRASE courses are filling up across the country and are mainstream news. And technically it is one aspect of survival but if you don't want to discuss it we don't have to.
Had a friend who told me she didn't need paper maps; she had GPS!
some people just don't get it, do they?
