I went to college in the LA area in the early 70's and have relatives on both my side and wife's side there. As far as my opinion, the weather is about the only thing that appeals to me in the state. While I am glad for the experience of living there for 4 years, it has changed drastically since I lived there and wife ( who is a 4th gen Californian) have no desire to move there.

IMHO if they can get the votes, i can gaurentee almost every republican will let them go. I feel this way as in the electoral college, CA has a much larger say (just about 50 votes), and always goes democrat. If CA was to leave, they would take their votes with them, and then Texas (republican) would have the most votes. This would skew the elections in republican favor for atleast the next 3-4 cycles.

How big are existing desalination plants? Californians without the water from the Colorado river could become quite thirsty.

are you high?

NO WAY the people republic of California has anything close in common with Texas. The people of Texas would NEVER go for that.

And I'm not a Texan but I was there for a few months. 0% chance.

They are 2 politically opposite states.

Texas would want to secede to get away from states like California.

It would be like saying a diabetic should marry the owner of candy store. not going to happen, terrible match.

conservatives flock to texas to get away from their areas. Texas wants to be independent but an entirely different type of state than California wants to be.

CA would need to adjust their taxes to support the lost of Fed $$. Silicon Valley & Hollywood would leave eventually as they don't want to be the only financial support for the state's huge burdensome costs. You think Apple or Google would give the state a couple of billion $$ in taxes? They haven't even paid enough Federal corporate income taxes with their offshore banking.

Just curious, is your wife Asian? I ask because most dry cleaners in my area are Asian, and I wonder if the whites who claimed to be in favor of Socialism were only saying that because they think it's racist to not be a Socialist.

Also, if it looks like the Secession is about to become a reality, a lot of Socialists, bums, and crackpots will rush into CA which will be great for the other 49 but will suck for the people stuck in CA who have to work.

You would be surprised.
California – 4,483,810 Trump voters
Texas - 4,685,047 Trump voters
Texas - 3,877,868 Clinton voters

I love stuff like this. The few relatives I still have there are probably cheering it on. The rest of them fled to Arizona a while back.

It really is its own society, and could support itself as a separate country. Even with its financial woes. I would not blame CA one bit, by wanting to go it's separate way.
This!

There are too many differences between the 50 states, religious, philosophical, political, agricultural, business-wise, everything.

I'm ashamed of our recent Presidents (from Reagan on), ashamed of what the District of Columbia and 'intelligence agencies' do without informing We the People, or even running it by the standards of the Constitution, ashamed of a country that would call for the head of a whistleblower and yet put a bigoted, spoiled psychopath into the Presidency, all because of some ill-educated southern, religious states that apparently read nothing but a Buy-Bull (at least they pretend to, mostly they don't read anything, you can tell by their spelling skills...).

California has a robust economy the size of France, a good relationship with both Mexico and Canada as well as Asian countries, a wealth of highly educated individuals and entrepreneurs, perfect weather no matter what kind of weather you like, important international ports... in short, it's a magnet for a lot of different reasons. Not so most states in the Union, which is doomed at this rate.

We'd do well getting rid of the albatross that is the southern states who proudly take more than they give, and support regressive political policies. The Constitution needs to be changed to allow any state to secede based on a vote of the populace, nothing else. We shouldn't have to 'ask permission' of Congress or the other states to beg off; a union needs to be completely voluntary, or it's slavery. It's not the 13 colonies with 20 million relatively uneducated farmers and villagers anymore, who had only a vague idea of what existed west of the Mississippi.

Let the progressive educated states do things their way, and the regressive religious states go ahead and handicap their children with crummy 'religious' educations that forsake science for a generation or two - we'll see how that pans out over time. Feel free to keep paying onerous taxes to an out of control District of Columbia, and supporting 100s of military bases world-wide, overpaid bankers and obsequious Congresscritters. You like your millions of laws all telling you what you can't do and your 7000 page tax code? You can have it.
