So how did you guys survive it ? What kind of horror stories will you tell your grand kids
I have nothing to tell my 6 grandkids about TP, as they have all seen me bringing 100 rolls to each of their two households. I also brought 30 rolls of paper towels to each family, along with wipes and soap. But then they are used to my twice monthly trips down to RI to deliver aggs, meat and vegetables. The grands have also been north to my place, and have seen the cartons of paper goods we have stored.
I bought TP in cartons of 80 rolls when they were selling for $32 per carton. That is what the SS&P board is for - to discuss preparations in advance, not to bemoan a hardship afterwards. YMMV.
only Sheeple run out of toilet paper.
several years ago our next door neighbour sent her daughter across the road to "borrow" a roll of TP because they had run out! how the heck do you run out of TP?
and yes, I've got enough stored for 6 months and I didn't Panic Buy either!!!
I bought most of my stash back in 2010 - 2012. No shortage back then, so no hoarding. I haven't bought a single roll in 2020. When I do restock, it will be with the commercial mega-rolls. You get more TP and less packaging that way. I buy 24 cartons at a time, for a business entity.
In early March when I first heard of people hoarding TP, I went to the supermarket and expected to find empty shelves. To my amusement, there was plenty of TP so I bought a 12-pack (Scott) "just in case". When I got home, of course we already had about 40 rolls on hand. Then when our son came home for Spring Break he brought another dozen or so rolls home.
At this point we have more TP than we started the #cornteen with, yet we haven't bought any.
I had to use paper towels for a couple of weeks, which I put in a bag and then burned, to keep from clogging the pipes. But then, I had some good luck. A grocery had shelves bare of toilet paper, except for some plain cardboard boxes, that each held 24 jumbo rolls. They had only small markings that indicated their contents and I think they were from the supply the store had to use in their rest rooms. Apparently, few other people looked closely enough to recognize what they were or there wouldn't have been any left. There was a limit of one pack per customer, so I grabbed a box.
A few weeks later, this store has some stock of toilet paper, but it's all the fancier and more expensive types. All the low and mid-priced packs are still sold-out. And there's a full stock of paper towels. But it will be several months before I need more of either.
It never reached a crisis for me. Some smaller stores by me have single rolls for sale (not the real fancy ones) but they get the job done.
