I haven't narrowed down a particular county just yet but it will be in the western section of the state more rainfall. I'm planning a road trip to Yamhill County to look at some acreages out there. Although I am not decided at the moment I at least have narrowed my search down quite a bit.

Draw a 40 mile circle around Yamhill county and check all options. Yamhill is very 'trendy and spendy', but might have strong veggie buyers and close to markets that pay top $. Problem (as mentioned.).. neighbors get their produce FREE from growers, so you need access to markets. Sometimes it is best to pay-the-price' for the best property. Run all your financials and see. I suspect Yamhill property prices to be too high for sustainable ag. But check all adjacent counties (and WA) too.

I will probably continue to use the internet so I will have to look more into how that works out in more remote areas.
Congrats and best of luck. I hope you find happiness.

I can recommend a book called "Making it home" by Lars Nordstrom. He's a guy who tried to grow wine grapes and be mostly self-sufficient in Clackamas County. I imagine his experience might be useful to draw upon. There are a lot of small things that can go wrong and so much satisfaction from actually doing it. It's a good book that I've read a couple of times.
