I bought a 6500 watt Predator generator from Harbor Freight Tools a couple months ago and it seemed to run fine, although it did use oil. Occationally it would bog down and quit. I read the manual and it said to let it warm up before plugging anything into it. That seemed to work. Then the other day I couldn't get it to run without bogging down. I took the carb apart and cleaned it, I always used 87 octane gas in it, always changed the oil (2x now) and called HF and they said bring it in for a replacement since it was still under warrenty. I took the air cleaner off to start it up and saw exhaust gas and oil coming out of the intake. Could this be because of bad rings?

Smoke doesn’t look thick or gray. Just take it back and swap it.

Those Chinese Honda knockoffs sometimes are just badly made.

Looks more like a restriction in the gas to me. Have you drained the carb bowl and tried fresh gas? Is there a gas shutoff valve that could be malfunctioning?

I have seen that happen on a riding mower engine, and it was a stuck intake valve. There was also gas in the oil.

Don't think there was gas in the oil, although it did look kinda brown. It's too late now, I've already exchanged it for a new one.
