I love where I live now, but if I just got a financial windfall, fiance' (husband by then) & I would love to have more new experiences & live in very nice apts about 2 years each in some cities here in California as well as some other places in the U.S.

In the meantime, we'd either have a lovely beach home being built OR better yet live in various places first to see exactly where we'd want to put more permanent roots again. Hopefully, we could do that someday still.

If money was no object I would buy the Hearst Castle and ranch on the CA coast. And a nice 30 million dollar weekend home on Lake Tahoe. But reality is a travel trailer down in the Holler...

Wink Nor the wind, which can be classified as a mere side-effect of the sun

If money was no object, I'd have as many acres as can be purchased, with natural hot springs and elevations. This would provide water, heat, and electricity without depending on any external supply (except for spare parts).

After all, this is Self-Sufficiency and Preparedness, and what is more self-sufficient than not even relying on the sun?

LOL. You are definitely in the wrong forum.

But hey, to answer the question--I would have bought a slightly larger bugout shack on a lot more acreage, with more woods, a pond, and a stream, slightly closer to where I live now. A second house on the property, and some sort of barn/large utility building would be nice. I'd get Tesla to come put solar roofs on everything, and install Powerwalls, and I'd be set.

I would buy a home on Mackinac Island for myself. Then I would buy an abandoned missile silo for DH.

City apartment on 5th Avenue for any time of the year, an ocean view cottage somewhere in Maine for the summer, a nice property and house somewhere in prime fall color country in Vermont, and a winter residence in Crystal River, FL. Powerball willing.

This being a self-sufficiency forum I better pick up the slack!!

How about buying at auction and converting an old missile silo into a residence?
I think a small unassuming residence above ground to hide the entrance.

Last year I took a tour of an old minute man II silo (now a museum) in Tucson, just like pic#2.
Quite an experience.
