It's way to soon to celebrate. My wife and I have had both are shots and after researching a little discovered that you can still get Covid. The shots will keep you out of the hospital but you can still get symptoms of Covid. The big question is long term effects from having Covid are still unclear but some that have had the shots and then got Covid have had longer term problems.
Because Covid is so new the smart thing to do is to maintain cautiousness.
Off-topic for this forum, but this is what I don't understand about all the misinformation out there. You did the research after you got the vaccine? Don't you think you should have done that before?
I'm just absolutely flabbergasted at the number of people out there who think that the vaccine makes you teflon and incapable of contracting Covid. What vaccine has ever done that?
The rabies vaccination is nearly 100% effective. I remember reading that the % of failure is so low it's within the expected range of human error in it's administration. It's also one of the few vaccines that works after exposure to the virus. In testing the human rabies trials the vaccine was 100% effective.
The link is to a propaganda or advertising video, whose authors either don't know the history of cyber security (and cyber warfare), or hope the viewer doesn't.

The question should have been "what vaccine against any corona virus has ever done that."
It is a known limitation of corona virus countermeasures, that our bodies don't build and maintain good defenses against them. Fortunately, only a fraction of us are vulnerable to any one corona virus, to begin with. I suspect this is a function of natural selection, throughout history.
(If you read my writings on the subject a year ago, I was wondering if a previously undetected virus may have been responsible for certain statistical anomalies we observed last year. It didn't occur to me, at that time, the previous virus may have been a century ago.)
The, somewhat, good news is: it is looking like the long term side effects of the vaccine are simply the same as the long term after effects of getting the virus. And they may be less intense than the after effects of getting the virus. (Preliminary information, no long term studies have been done, obviously.)
I was surprised when a woman who had worked where I volunteer made a statement that she was going buying a house. When I asked her how, she said her unemployment benefits were included as income. I told here I didn't think that was true, but she insisted. She is shopping for a home and believes that, when the benefits run out, she the minimum wage will be $15.00 and she will be able to afford the mortgage.
I wonder how many other people are trying to do this!
Remember that media's job is fear mongering for money. There have always been viruses and what you didn't know didn't scare you. Worry about your own health and boosting your immune system, not a magic pill or injection.
When you hear media propaganda shouting about 'cases' and 'contagious new variant' remember that a case is just a positive test and there are a lot of false positives. Unless people are hospitalized, most recover at home with several treatments available in about the same time as the flu. Remember you have a 99.9% recovery rate. Similar or better than flu.
Sadly, there are people who have been so terrorized by the hype that they will wear masks forever.
Wait & see. Now is a good time for a well stocked pantry. Plant a garden, buy canned goods by the case store rice & pasta in clean 30 gallon steel cans to keep rodents out. Even paper goods in the event of another lockdown.
if you aren't home canning, get thr Ball big book of home canning and start.
Get ahead of everything now while you can and prepare to live well instead of just surviving.

Nothing wrong with living healthy.

Well, closer to 99.0%, but still similar to the flu. Much more dangerous to the oldest among us, much less dangerous to the College aged people.
When they quote total numbers, that is propaganda. Those numbers will never go down, even if there is never another case. Look only at how many are currently in the hospital, and then compare it to the max that was in the hospital last Winter. When you hear the "numbers are spiking" remember if it was 2, and now it's 3, that is a 50% increase. If it was 700, and now it is 707, that is "only" a 1% increase. The first one will be touted as a "spike" in the numbers, but the second one is much worse.

Fight the fear!
True, that.

I concur. I have been saying, since 1996, if you aren't recovering from a disaster, you should be preparing for the next one.
Yikes, celebrating what?! COVID's probably here to stay for a long time still. People think just because vaccinations are out that we're all a-okay & cam all be laxed. I don't think so!

What foolish thinking!!! I want to own a home one day too, but I'd never do a thing like this. Keep us posted on if she'll be able to actually buy a home. SHe better be holding onto her pennies for as long as she can!

in other words, like the flu. People forget tens of thousands of people die in the US every year from flu and, unlike Covid, young people, children and babies die in addition to elderly and people with other medical conditions. No one ever seemed too upset by that.
As far as what is happening in India, I'd be skeptical. Thousands of people die and are cremated in India everyday. I'd like to know what the statistics are from two years ago vs now. Sounds like a money grab by BigPharma to sell vaccines.
A neighbor's daughter was a nurse who volunteered to help in NYC last year because of the media panic and wound up spending most of her time in a hotel with other nurses who flew in because they wanted to help. She worked a few hours for a few days and left in disgust at the fake news. No chaotic masses of bodies. I guess by then Cuomo had had Covid patients sent to nursing homes to kill off tens of thousands of elderly and drive up the numbers.

It isn't too hard to understand that we are not India, but it is difficult for people to fathom that we shouldn't be gauging our actions on what is happening there. (I don't have a problem with sending some of our extra vaccine to them, that isn't what this is about.)
India is simply going through, now, what we went through last fall. Don't get wrapped up in their numbers. Because of the way 2nd and 3rd world societies are structured, their statistics don't mean what we think they mean. Many countries around the world are going through the surge we went through last fall, but their health care systems are not as resilient as ours was (I don't know how much is left) so they are taking a lot more casualties.
