Here's how one person defined it the Doomer Optimist philosophy:

The more in depth explanation is that Doomer Optimism is a social movement in which people recognize and accept the very hard problems they see coming down the road, but still move forward with a sense of hope for what might come of it all. You can see several definitions here, from one of the people who named the DO movement.

As he mentioned in the article, even if a SHTF scenario doesn't happen, he actually prefers living in a more self-sufficient way, anyway.

I like his general philosophy.

I generally like what he has to say, but wish he (or whoever named it) had picked a different name for the movement.

I especially like:

When I posted it on my social media, I got something like 10% of the usual likes & comments. But the flood of private messages was huge.

Why didn’t anyone want to comment on a post that a ton of people wanted to talk to me about?

I learned two things: the interest in the ideas behind Doomer Optimism is bigger than I realized, and it’s something a lot of people are scared to admit they believe in.
I read quite a bit of it, and agree with most of what he has to say. Especially, any discussion of the underlying causes for the approaching storms will bring down a lot of heat upon your head. (Often leads, quickly, to the thread being locked.) That is why I tell certain people, from time to time, to DM me. (And I have even gotten some heat over that.)

In my retirement, we have found a growing sub-culture of off-grid self-sufficient organic farmers, who are very accepting of both Luddites and Techies.

Is this the same "I hope the serve beer in hell" tucker max? Not sure if it's the same guy but I suspect it is. If so, he's made an interesting evolution over time

The bio I found on Amazon matches, enough to support that it is the same guy. I doubt he has evolved, but rather, this is the same guy from a different angle.

The "fratire" (fraternal satire) he wrote about the dating scene isn't all that different than "doomer optimism," and would explain the goofy title.
