I'm not sure there is any way to prepare for a doomsday scenario unless you live rural and can grow your own food and provide your own water. I live in an apartment and work in the city....all we can do is go down together. I live my life as though it won't happen....while keeping the knowledge in my heart that it may.
If you have guns, you just go around shaking people down for food and water. Or perhaps offer your services to defend property in return for sundries. It's all good.
How do you go off the grid if you live in a condo?
That's why we sold out of Florida 3 years ago. We knew really bad things were coming. We searched for this piece of property for 2 years. Preparation is key.
Going off grid takes a LOT of time & preparation. It's also far from affordable, now more than ever. I'll take my arsenal with me in search of an off-grid place and offer to work & defend the crops when the zombies come looking for a handout...
Reading a lot of prepare as much as possible before the complete collapse posts. What do you think preparation looks for the average American?
Depends on the situation.
For two-wager earner families, that means living off of the lesser wage and using the superior wage to pay off all credit card and other unsecured debt, then pay-off all secured debt.
In the alternative, you can back with cash all of your debts, but that's kind of stupid since you lose money on interest payments. The reason you want to do that is to prevent damage from instant demands for payment.
That'll protect you when your card issuers send notice that your account is suspended/closed and the balance is due on receipt, or in 10 days or in 30 days. The last thing you want is legal action, especially if you're a home "owner" (snicker).
Then you can practice living on one income, while you bank/save the rest.
If you're a one wage earner family, start living on half the income. Use the other half to pay down debts, and then you can practice for when you lose your job and have to try to live off unemployment or a job that pays less than half of what you're used to getting paid.
There you go. Live in a car. Off the grid...you got heat, power, and a roof over your head. Off the grid.
