So what's the point?

I've learned that many times, when there are economic problems in our nation, that the problem is not spread around equally. There are some locations that are very bad. Other areas are just fine. This was true during the crisis in 2008. Much of the nation was indeed suffering from a shortage of jobs and economic growth. But not Texas. Texas growth slowed a little, but most of the state was generally fine, and after about 2 years, growth continued on it normal track. Locally, we saw a rapid drop in home construction, but in 2 years, we were back on our normal growth rate and the subdivisions continued to grow, as they do still today.

I think the same will be true in the future. There will continue to be a general decline in the prosperity in our country, but some states and areas will continue to prosper. People will continue to leave places that are falling apart and move to other places where there are jobs and opportunity.
Totally agree. Right now, even around here in New York's very own Redneck Heaven, if you can't find a job, you aren't trying very hard. Old Rust Belt cities like Buffalo, Cleveland, and Detroit are seeing more investment and newcomers than they've seen in decades. Yet, in the oil patches in TX and ND and elsewhere, thousands of people are getting laid off.

We understand the OP's view -- and yours -- very well, and we're looking at the big picture, y'know, the world wide picture where the population is 7+ billion. Again, for the 100th plus time, barring some kind of cosmic event or a nuclear war that wipes out all life on Planet Earth, human civilization is going to continue well into the foreseeable future. Even if North America or Western Europe or both sank into the seas, the rest of the world -- and the rest of human civilization would continue.

The fall of Rome in 476 AD did NOT end civilization throughout the world. The fall of the US and/or the UK is NOT going to end civilization throughout the world.

Let me turn this around a bit: you and others have accused a few people here of being trolls and intentionally derailing threads. You have asked questions such as "why come to this forum if you don't believe in prepping".

It seems to me that no matter what - you have made up your mind - the sky WILL fall and it WILL fall in a catastrophic way. No answer anyone provides is good enough. In multiple threads you have advocated TOTAL lossof electricity, TOTAL loss of any knowledge to repair anything, TOTAL AND ABSOLUTE looting by MOST of the population, so on and so on.

Let's assume we believe and agree with you - you were asked to state what YOU are doing to mitigate these risks. After all, YOU claim that this forum is a place of learning and that trolls are interfering with this learning.

Yet, every time YOU were asked what to do - you quote OPSEC or some other nonsense. Let's say we ALL assume that stance - OPSEC and everyone keeps their mouth shut. How is this going to be a forum of learning and idea sharing then?

Let me ask you this: if you sincerely believe all these end of world scenarios - why are YOU here? Are you here for a group "prepper porn" session? Are you here to get validated in your paranoia? What is it that drives you to negate every possible answer given to you and just keep repeating the same old "sky is falling" mantra? I mean, if you think we are all going to die in a terrible death - why are you not out there living life and enjoying what is left of the planet? Why spend countless hours and energy arguing with "non believers"?

By deduction, it would seem that you are truly special and see something that most people cannot see - either share the gift and what to do or ... ?

This thread has made my work day go a little quicker, and has made me laugh a little. Thank you, thank you all!

But in all seriousness, the world is obviously already in chaos on a daily basis, we have all just become accustomed to the "norm" of shootings, ISIS attacks/threats, people hating opposite races, etc... The downfall of us all has already begun, but why fret over it? Enjoy what little time we all have left.

Yeah but see, that's kind of a problem. The sky is not falling.

If you look at recent conflicts (after WW2), they have actually been less bloody than WW2 and anything prior (check out http://fallen.io for example)

If you look at (violent) crime rates in United States and all over the world - they are dropping.

Here is a great study of terrorism since 1960s: Terror Trends: 40 Years' Data on International and Domestic Terrorism

Yes, the world is increasingly dependent on technology ....

.

.
.
.

and has been since the wheel has been invented! Don't forget - the wheel is also technology

So.... the sky is not falling.

the topic at hand is: WHEN the end comes, not if, why or maybe. if you don't believe in the subject matter then don't answer it.
why do people who don't believe in something happening continually argue with those that do?
following on from another conversation I think maybe the ignore function will be getting a lot of work in the near future.

preparedness isn't about the destination, its about the journey.

It's easier to Ignore a questioner than to answer them.

There seem to be two sorts of people who post on the S-S & P forum. There are those who wish to share information for mutual benefit. There are others, however, who wish only to attack the premises behind our posts, usually to distort them.

There are other fora that suffer as well, but this one seems to come under attack the most. It's really boring to see the chaff of negative posts while looking for those that are worthwhile.
