Heat, smog, and the possibility of climate changing to present droughts is interesting.
However in the context of long-term survivability a great deal of the US is prone to drought. Those areas have been subject to drought since long before anyone dreamed up 'global-warming' and those areas will likely stay with drought conditions for a long time to come.
This year many farmers have lost their crops due to drought, and they live in areas where they have suffered droughts before. Not so much due to any change in climate, those areas have droughts regardless of any change in climate.
