This website has a column on building the ultimate survival shotgun. It's great:

However in the context of long-term survivability a great deal of the US is prone to drought. Those areas have been subject to drought since long before anyone dreamed up 'global-warming' and those areas will likely stay with drought conditions for a long time to come.

This year many farmers have lost their crops due to drought, and they live in areas where they have suffered droughts before. Not so much due to any change in climate, those areas have droughts regardless of any change in climate.

Possibly interesting resource here:

Handy farm devices and how to make them, by Rolfe Coleigh (1912). The copyright expired, so its in the public domain now. Lots of diagrams. 288 pages.

Handy farm devices and how to make them (Online version. Nice book reader implementation on this site. Better than most I've seen)

http://ia700409.us.archive.org/25/it...4080109832.pdf (pdf version to download)

Handy farm devices and how to make them : Cobleigh, Rolfe : Free Download & Streaming : Internet Archive (you can get it in Kindle and a bunch of different versions - see left menu.)

This North Dakota State University cooperate extension website has a large number of construction plans for various homesteading things:

Housing — NDSU

Click on menu on the left to go through the different categories. It's not detailed construction plans, more like blueprints. Could be useful to look through for many design ideas for different kinds of out-buildings. Plans are in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format.
