Which Mattress Type is Best for Back & Neck Pain? (pillow, purchasing)

Hello, Im in the process of treating myself to a new mattress set for Christmas.
I'm confused with all of the different types & brands out there.
Sometimes I suffer neck pain, & my doctor said this could be due to my mattress getting old.
Does anyone have an opinion on which mattress type or brand would be good for me?

Everyone that I know that has spent the money for a Sleep Number loves them. I'm pretty sure they are a few grand though...

Check into Sleep to Live. Since purchasing one earlier this year those aches and pains are gone. That and a good pillow. If you go to a Sleepy's they have a computerized bed you lie on and it measures your weight and pressure points on the mattress to help determine if you need a softer or firmer mattress. You can then lie on some of the showroom models and try out different pillows to see which offers to best fit for you. Just a word of caution, they are expensive. But you spend a third of your life in bed, so mattresses and pillows are two things I don't think you should cut corners on.
