I bought a new GE frig off the show floor and checked the serial no and its a late 08. Is this normal? I registerd it and it seemed to be fine, but its four years old.
All that indicates is it was manufactured in '08. It could be part of a large stored inventory and not even shipped to the dealer til a year or two later. If you're concerned about the warranty you should contact the dealer for a written one, or call the manufacturers customer service number and explain your situation and see what they have to say.
A unit built in '08 is probably better built and will last longer than these latest ones, especially if it uses the older freon system.
