I think because it's quicker than washing/rinsing/drying.

not as effective but any port in a storm as they say.

What I don't understand is why anyone would place hand sanitizer in a bathroom. The bathroom, by proxy, makes the hand sanitizer.. unsanitary. How's that for an oxymoron? Unsanitary hand sanitizer, because it's in the bathroom.. with all the aerosol-ized poo and pee from people flushing the toilet with the lid up..

Because its the in-thing to do. They are everywhere. You walk into almost any type of store and there is one near the entrance (or near the shopping carts). I don't know how we survived all these years without them.

Here's an odd situation from yesterday. I walked into a car dealership bathroom and the had a pump soap and a pump sanitizer and a paper dispenser, that used a manual switch, to wipe your hands with. Think about it for a moment........... Did it sink in? Did the last person who used the paper dispenser actually use any soap before he touched it?

It helps prevent the cooties. Soap and water is ineffective. Cooties multiplies when you touch it.

A triumph of wonderful marketing for an otherwise unnecessary product.

As posted in the bathroom of a restaurant a friend owned a few years ago ...

"Wash it off your hands now, or eat it off your hands later"

It's probably for germ freaks (like me ) who woud first wash their hands and then use the hand sanitizer for a germ barrier. This practice must work because I never have a cold or the flu even when the outbreaks are at their highest.

I chuckle when exiting a public bathroom and seeing you have to grab hold of a handle to open the door and another one to get out of the building.
Then there are studies like this........

How clean is your car? Steering wheels have nine times more germs than public toilet seat [UK Daily Mirror]
Study: Steering wheels are nine times dirtier than public toilet seats [Autoblog]

I'd suggest disposable gloves for germaphobes
