That is a great idea about the BBB. Also you have to renew on the do not call registry every 5 years or so. More info is availablle at their website listed above.

My number was registered with do-not-call the day after it was hooked up. But I get calls for an out-of-business company, how do I put a stop to them without having my number changed?

You get calls FOR a company?
Are you saying that your number was previously used by a business?

If you have a computer with a voice modem, use "Phone Tray Free" (free software) and set the junk calls to get a standard "disconnected" tone response. I've been surprised how fast it stopped calls here.

I get a gazillion calls from both the Republicans and Democrats, the Alzheimer's Assn, several diabetes groups and other entities that are exempt from the Do Not Call list.

So I googled BLOCK CALLS LANDLINE and found instructions on how to block unwanted calls. Of course, I have to receive a call from one of them before I can block that phone number -- but I was receiving calls daily from the same exempt entities (despite my asking them not to call any more) and now I get one call from a number and that's all.

The unwanted sales calls got so bad that we had our land line cancelled and we went to all cell phones---no more unwanted calls or junk mail.

I still get collection calls on my cell for the previous holder of the number. Seven years and counting. She apparently still puts it down occasionally as her number. It's become comical, and doesn't happen as much as it used to, maybe 2 or 3 times a year now as opposed to nearly daily early on. She must owe money to about 90% of the stores and utilities in MD.

If you have a landline, check out my post above. Once Rachel calls you, you can block any future calls from that number. I've tried it and it works!

You may be able to block calls to a cell phone too but I havent googled how to do that.
