Incandescent light bulbs banned in 2012 (sell, deal, heater, manufacturers)

I got nothing against CFL's, I have plenty of them around the house. But there are situations where I would rather have an incandescent. At work, we use drop lights around the shop, and most of those bulbs die a traumatic end, almost daily. I'd rather spend 25¢ on a bulb that will last me 24 hours than $2.50 on a bulb what will also last me 24 hours.
On the cold months, I also keep an incandescent bulb on my desk to keep me warm while I'm at the computer. I'd guess I'll have to use a 1500W space heater instead.

Personally I don't care if incandescent bulbs go away; there are hardly any of them left in the house anyway and the ones that are left are used very infrequently. As they burn out they'll be replaced with CFLs. (One hasn't been replaced because the fixture is busted and I can't get the bulb out. So once the bulb burns out, the fixture is being replaced.)
I've used CFLs almost exclusively for almost a decade now; they are pretty much the norm in Europe and have been for years. I spent a good deal of my adult life living in Europe (though I'm American) so I'm used to them and the light casts they create. I also like that they don't throw off heat.
So where are these CFL's that last 5-7 years? They cost many times what a standard bulb costs, yet any I've ever had don't last any longer, a few lasted less than a year.
CFL are filled with toxic mercury. They should be banned. This is just another case of the government picking winners and losers. The cure is worse than they symptoms when it comes to CFL's. Oh, it is a job killer in the USA to boot! I've known about this for a couple of years and if/until LED technology can replace the incandescent this is just stupid.
I think both incandescents and CFLs should be banned... we should all be using LED lights and the government should force the manufacturers to sell them at cost + 10%... if you are going to mandate "green" you might as well do it right...

When we bought our new house two years ago, we switched out about 75% of the bulbs in the house to CFLs. We're probably talking 40 or so bulbs. In that time, we have replaced exactly 3 of them. The rest are still running along just fine.

Either you have unbelievably bad luck with light bulbs, you're using the wrong type, or you are doing something else wrong.
I have never had those types of problems with CFLs at all.
