Like any other site it depends on item cost, item shipping cost and shipping time.

Once a while, it depends on item and cost. Most recently an ink cartridge that I used a $5.00 certificate, and a Chi flatiron that was $100 less than in the store.

Competition is good. It keeps prices down.

So many bookstores have closed because of the bigger stores. Now the big stores are also sinking. Borders got bought by Kmart whose management probably knew little about the book industry, about the customers, and those stores quickly went downhill.

Now I hear that Barnes and Nobles is having financial difficulties. I love their stores and how well trained the employees are, but on line the search engine they use is just awful.

Amazon, when searching and perhaps not sure, often presents exactly the book you were looking for among the top few on the first page. B&N has you screening page after page of results from their search engine.

Amazon's orders arrive very quickly and B&N takes a long time to get to us. Perhaps we are near a warehouse.

So, although we would like to purchase from B&N to keep some competition going, they have cut corners where they should not have and we order mostly from Amazon. Usually books.

Oh, and it is so convenient to have those Amazon customer reviews, and we really appreciate that they also suggest books that other purchasers bought. It is a good experience, and you know they are trying to get their computer to present as close to a personal experience that you might get with an actual salesperson as possible.

They must pay their IT staff a lot.

I love amazon with the strong aussie dollar against the greenback there is bargains to be had. For example the brand new coldplay cd in oz is approx $27 bucks on amazon it is about $13 bucks now even when you add shipping (mind you it would be a more than 1 cd that I be buying) I buy my daughters toys online (e.g a melissa and doug wooden pizza in oz $45 on amazon $14. you do the math!! Besides dont get me started about the lack of customer service in oz I love amazon!!!! (shame no free shipping to oz that is the only fault about amazon).

It's my primary non-food shopping place. Three or 4 times a month.

Often enough that the UPS guy actually gave us a pad of signature slips so that we can put one on our door when we anticipate a delivery which we won't be home to sign for.

I used to spend a lot of time checking out merchandise prices on the internet. Now, if Amazon has it, I just buy it from there. Amazon's Customer Service is second to none and that, in addition to the Amazon Prime, makes it worthwhile to just go to Amazon first. And I've gotten spoiled by their free two-day Prime shipping.

I buy from Amazon about a half dozen times a month; they are almost all books and audio books. I also resell the same items on Amazon.
