Purchased a Maytag Maxima commercial grade washing machine just over a year ago. Paid around $1000 and $250 for the stand. Bought it at a local "home improvement warehouse" without the extended warranty because the "salesman" told my wife that this fine piece of American made machinery ( HA!) would last 17 - 20 years before we had any trouble with it.
Within the first 12 months we have had a repairman out 5 times and basically had the entire machine rebuilt, and the control panel replaced 3 times. We now have another service call out for tomorrow. We finally did purchase the extended warranty out of foresight after about 4 months of owning this lemon which Maytag (Whirpool) offered to us at a reduced cost.
After speaking to the last repairman, we found out that Maytag (Whirlpool) has contracted with Samsung to produce these machines which is what put Maytag out of business years ago.
When we did our research prior to purchasing the Maytag had rave reviews but our new model had just come out so we couldn't find anything specific on our model.
I have recently contacted thhe "home improvement warehouse" to see if there's anything they can do for me so we'll see how it turns up. I am also hopeful that our extended warranty company will eventually replace this obvious lemon of a washing machine.
Maytag is not what it used to be and the bored repairman must be VERY busy now since Maytag is no longer Maytag anymore.
