meh. The generic antihistamine is fine. We've been using it for years. Much, if not most, of the candy is name brand stuff. Whoever was doing the reporting was just blathering. The Pepto substitute has more water added, I skip that. If it is in the refrigerated case, I avoid at all cost. Tried the cheese once, tried a couple other items as well, Yuuuck. The ultra-pasturized milk is fine, and we keep a couple of those around in case we run out of fresh milk. Some of the cookies are decent.
Dollar stores get a couple of major product streams - old overstock (think drinking glasses and such) and off-brand where the branded products have huge markups. Hence, antihistamine is inexpensive, but the pepto substitute has to be watered to make the price break. If you see something too good to be true, it likely is. Many of the kitchen gadgets are junk, contrary to the article.
What I didn't see on the list were greeting cards. $4 for Hallmark, 50 cents for a dollar store one equally as good - decisions, decisions...
I hate dollar stores....they are cancers.
I just get so upset thinking of all the wasted resources that went into those products....the transport cost and energy.
They waste resources to produce a $0.10 product that is shipped over from China and then trucked to the store....all that waste for a minimal profit margin.
Some products may be ok, better to use them than just trash them.....but I'd rather see these store disappear.
We buy some non-food items at the Dollar Store, like pocket Kleenex 6 for a buck where Walmart and others are 3 for a dollar or more. Allergy sufferers go through a lot of Kleenx tissues.
If you shop around and know your products then you'll find if the Dollar store product is a good buy or not. Greeting cards are a real bargain there. Decor for Haloween and other celebrations are generally a good buy. Some soaps and toiletries are too. Certs are 3 for a dollar there also and 89 cents each at regular stores.
Again you need to know your products and their prices.
Personally I would not buy any food at a dollar store. I once had some candy someone bought from the dollar store and it was stale and disgusting.
I disagree I NEVER got bad candy at $ stores! As for any products No Matter what store you buy in Check Exp Dates! Some clerks dont bother rotating the stock & can be pushing dated products to the back! IF its expired tell the mgr!
