I just moved to an apartment complex and don't have outdoor electlric. I want to be able to vacuum my car myself instead of going to the car wash. So my goal is to plug the power inverter into the cigarette lighter ad be able to clean my car. I want to be able to get good power ad suction. The vaccum I am going to buy to clean my car is 550 watts of cleaning power and 120 volts. One of the power inverters I found are 800 watts peak power and 400 watts continuous power. It also says 12 volt dc to 120 volt ac. Will this work for what I am trying to do or do I need something more powerful?

Thanks

550 watts for a vac is not spectacular, but the next inverter up from that in power should do the job. Have the engine running to keep the battery from becoming toast, and try to connect direct to the battery rather than use a lighter socket. Me, I'd get a small shop vac and find an outlet somewhere or go to a gas station.

Can't run a long extension cord out the window?

If not, I'd go to the gas station or car wash. Inverters that plug into the lighter are not really meant for that kind of wattage, if you go that route you really need one that connects with big alligator clips directly to the battery, and I agree with Harry, keep the engine running or it will drain the battery pretty fast.
