I suspect that someone has figured out that using the internet one can create a new version of musak, the bane of elevators. I nominate Vuesak for a name.

Bah! I'd forgotten about "Musak". Those things were awful -- are they still around?
"In-store entertainment" is an applicable term sometimes used, I think.
Those services used to be delivered by satellite a lot of the time, and many of them visible to free-to-air viewers at home. Some of them still are, but I suspect many have transitioned to private IP systems.
So far all the TV's that I've seen in these places use closed captioning so you won't be disturbed by the sound if you're not interested. Doesn't bother me. When we eat and I see one it's usually showing a football game or some other sporting event.
They have this at all the pumps at the gas station I use. There's usually local weather or a bank commercial. Sometimes they have DIY segments or something about food/cutting calories.
