JCP, Sears, Target, Walmart, etal (when ordering online only products) these company's take your order, forward it to the manufacturer or supplier, the mfg or supplier in turn ships the item to you then has the store you ordered it from bill you and take their profit and they the store then sends the mfg/supplier their money. Warranty issues can be a real hassle.
Those retailers never see the product or have it available for you to test out.
We had a similar problem with JCP years ago like OP's. The mattress we got from them had a supposedly 10 year warranty. What they warranted I don't know because after 18 months our mattress sagged so bad we couldn't sleep on it. JCP had the mfg send out a inspector who gave us a bad time, said the sag wasn't deep enough, that we had a 1/2 inch more to go for a "possible" replacement. When he was leaving he said if we call again for the same problem get a couple of large cement bags and lay them on the mattress and when the inspector comes take them off before he see's them, that way the sag will stay down longer. What a way to do business.
We went to a local mattress dealer and checked out the one we bought right there in the store.
After JCP died and the company changed and started buying over seas and cheap mdse we just quit doing business with them. All their clothes are made in 3rd world country's.
Poor JCP. It makes me sad. My first job was working there back in the 70's and it was my first credit card, which I still have today. Forever I shopped their catalog for tall women's clothing and household staples. We bought a mattress and a sofa set there a long time ago, name brand manufacturers, and they were great. It WAS my go-to store for most of my adult life. Until a few years ago. I'm SO disappointed I can't stand it.
Hi all. I'm considering buying a sofa from Penney online, without having an opportunity to see it and sit in it. The site tells me these aren't in the stores. But it's about 1/2 price of comparable ones I'm seeing online, and the reviews on the JCP site are favorable....meaning I don't necessarily trust them. I can't find reviews other places on the web, which is suspicious to me.
All the affordable local stores in my area have very "puffy" sofas and we are looking for a pared-down (more rigid, 50s/60s) style to replace one that we have that's gotten too saggy.
So I'm hoping somebody in this community might have an opinion to share.
Has anybody bought a sofa from Penney?
I'm interested in:
comfort, how long it lasted, if craftsmanship was shoddy.
Thanks in advance.
I bought the sofa with the chaise at one end with round arms and "storm" microfiber upholstery. I received it in Nov. took exactly 8 weeks. I'm very happy with it. I'm "camped out" on the chaise every night with my cat cured up with me, nice and cozy. I was Leary about buying online, but I was lucky that the JCP near me still has a furniture dept. so I could test "sit" it. It is made in America which was a big deal in my book!
