Gemco was a big department store. As a kid and teenager I went there a lot and some friends worked there. I don't know how many there were. Ours was in San Leandro, Ca.
A store similar to it but closed about the time Gemco opened was Gem, also in San Leandro. My mom shopped there a lot.
I used to buy reptiles at our old Woolworth store as they had a pet dept. Anole ( american chameleons) were 50 cents. Caimans were 3.99. Red ear slider turtles and a few others were a dollar.
My Mom would treat us to lunch at the counter restaurant they had inside.
Thanks to everyone for stirring up old and forgotten memories.
A & P A grocery store chain. Possibly still in business, haven't heard or seen them in eons so I believe theyre out of business.
Was listening to one of their commercials on the radio ages ago, the ad was on the last line of the ad when it started skipping, it went: "so go to your nearest A & P & P & P & P & P & P...."
As a Floridian, I remember Pic-N-Save stores. (They were similar to Wal-Mart and, as far as I can remember, they were only in Florida)
I also remember T, G & Y, Woolworth's, Woolco, Zayre's (loved their popcorn), May Cohen's and Ivey's (Dillard's of the '70's and early '80's).
Also in Florida were Godfather's Pizza and Famous Amos restaurants (FA was a favorite of my parents...the best homecooked meals outside of Mom's kitchen!)
^^^ Do you mean Circus World? It was a mall store similar to Kaybee Toys (and bought out by them I think), except Circus World had red carpet and Kaybee had blue carpet.
