I am looking for a grill recommendation. 2 (1.5 actually) years ago I bought 3 burner Charbroil infrared to replace a 20 year old Charbroil H type that rusted out. This grill has proven to be a cheap POS and has had part after part fail and now is almost rusted out beyond belief. The fire tents, bottom of smoke box, grates, and heat tents are all badly corroded and I suspect the burners will go in a few months rendering it unusable. The sad thing is I like the way it cooks and would buy it again if it wasn't made of cheap low grade metal and crappy parts.
Anyways, I am looking for a new grill ~$500-800 that won't rust out. I find I need 3 burners as I keep the middle one off. I grill 4 cut up whole chickens (chicken breast and leg/thigh quarters) twice a week and the main trick is to make sure the grill doesn't get hot enough to ignite the chicken grease turning it into a grease rather than propane grill and burning everything inside to a bitter black cinder. I don't care about a side burner or fancy cabinets or shiny stainless steel. I just want something that will work and last.
I've had the little Weber grill that looks like a clam shell for four years now with no issues. I bought a smaller one, but think this larger one will fit your budget and criteria. Here's the link:
Wer have had ours about 10 years. Dont use it much except the side burner. I think it is a blue ember(?) that I got at home depot. I like charcoal and that is the grill I use when we cook out...
I have a gas/charcoal/smoker/burner hybrid now for 3 years. Love this. If I am in a quick mood, I use the gas part. Have time to bbq, I use the smoker/charcoal side. It looks like a barrel with chimneys.
One thing I learned is to not put a grill cover over it, the cover holds in the moisture.
Things like burners and flame tents are really wear items. The constant heating and cooling wears them out (metal fatigue/stress) and they have to be replaced occasionally, I've found for me every 3 years or so for burners. Think of them like you do the brakes on your car. I've also found that grates wear out.

If you are going up to $800, why don't you just bite the bullet and get the Big Green Egg?

Being the elements that a Chicago Grill has to go through, it may be worth thinking about.
Otherwise, have you thought about getting someone to custom make you a grill?
Not sure about Chicago but this is very common in the south.
I bought a grill cover that has a big mesh vent across the front. The Charbroil is just made of cheap Chinese high tin stainless steel.
Never heard of the egg is it propane? Nevermind the website says Charcoal. I have a 40 year old Weber round charcoal grill but I have never used it.
