Do you have memories of any retail chains that are now out of business? I remember going to a Treasury Store in Memphis as a child. It was a JC Penney subsidiary that was a discount retailer, a kind of forerunner to WalMart Supercenter, because you could buy groceries and gasoline at some of them. A distinct characteristic of these stores was a zig-zag roofline.

Up in the North East I remember Zayres which was like a Woolworth and Caldors' and Bradlees which I guess were like a Target store without the food section. My first job was at Bradlees folding clothes, putting up displays. Later I worked at Channel which was a large home improvement store that closed up when the really big Lowes and HD's came to the area.

At least one of the former Treasury Stores in Memphis (in fact the one I remember visiting) later became a Zayre's. This is what the property looked like a few years ago:
