A few days ago I saw some stuffs that I was interested, and thought I'd buy them when the big sale came. Yesterday they had the lowest prices I had seen, but I thought: wait for tomorrow's big sale. Today, huge banner ran across front page, something like Black Friday Sale - Extra xx% Off! Sure enough, when I checked the items I was interested in, their prices were like 40% up, so even with the "extra xx% off" they cost way more than yesterday.
Great links Seems this day is one of the days when one should avoid shopping.
So when is the real deals' day? How 'bout post Christmas/New Year?
Good idea. People wonder about my supposedly high dollar hunting and other clothes (Cabela's not Orvis) but they don't realize I buy them after Christmas when they're on sale for 1/3 to 1/2 to more off. Hunting stuff in February, other clothes right after Christmas.
Yes, hunting season is pretty much over then but the clothes are essentially brand new for next year.
Hmmm, that must be why I have so many pairs of gloves.
I worked at a large retailer for several years as a supervisor. I would notice big sales in some departments and then other items would go up slightly. So if you went in the store for a specific coat at a great price, but you bought other items while you were there, the store got its money back. Many of the hot ticket items might be sold at their cost just to get you in the door to buy other items at normal mark up.
Coach Factory seems to be this way. I've shopped Coach Factory long enough to know the "normal" cost of things. It seems no matter what "sale" they have going no matter if it's 30% off, 50% off or 70% off...the prices never seem to change, if any thing some times the items become more expensive.
Well, to be fair... it's coach factory. You're never getting a good value there. It's nothing like what you find at Coach (which in itself has dropped in quality over the last decade or so).
Black Friday is part psychological and part entertainment. For some, it has become a tradition among friends and family and the "deals" are secondary to the experience.

It's a celebration of consumerism. "Shop till you drop" was a sarcastic saying in the 80's and 90's and now it's a mantra for many. Some will have someone else pay for their purchases. For others, purchases become a noose, as they sink deeper into debt.
there are deals to be had on Black Friday, but to find them amist all of the crap thats out there takes a lot of research.
