I use it for e-mail, viewing and sending pictures and video,browsing the web. I dont like to wait to look at things . Very impatient. Can I get a reccomendation from you guys?? Thanks.
Take my reccomendation with a grain of salt. But recently I was faced with the delima of either repairing an old Dell Inspiron 6000 (2005 vintage) or buying a low end laptop. I considered that most any laptop will not last 4 years in my house the way I use it. So there's no point in spending what I spent on the Dell back then (~$1500 pre-tax). That's stupid money to spend on something that will not be used for any serious gaming or much of anything beyond surfing the net or a MS-Office program. You could do all that with most any offering from wallyworld. And if ultimately it's going to develop problems and eventually die.....yeah....
So after a lot of shopping I bought two (12 yr old daughter saved up some money to buy one of her own) Toshiba Satellite laptops (forgive me I don't know the specific models). 3GB RAM, 250GB HD, Windows 7, 15.6" Screen, ~2.0 Ghz Processor. For ~$400 (on sale...reg price was $550ish).
So far I have been pleasantly surprised with their overall quality for the money. Much better performance than I ever got from the Dell....screens unbelievably sharper and brighter than the Dell....much lighter weight than the Dell....also they seem fairly durable....we broke all kinds of stuff on the Dell within months of getting it out of the box. Has a built in mic and camera.
For $600....you could get a similar machine with more memory, HD space, and faster processor. If I were you I'd just search a few online stores (ie Office Max, Office Depot, Staples, Walmart <i'm serious>, etc) Find a group of machines in your price range that have the features you want and then just go to the store and mess around with the display models to see which ones you like.
Because all the major brands of laptops use various vendors for their laptop platforms it's hard to say whether or not one particular brand is the way to go.....You may like one HP but the next you may not be able to stand. The pads on some machines can be kind of quirky compared to others (my wife hated a few of them enough to elliminate them from the runnings....just over that point alone).
I'm the same as a prev. poster. I just need and use my laptop for internet surfing, listening to music, and other basics. So, I usually buy a decent, cheaper one. I wouldn't say I am rough on it, but, I like knowing that if something is broken, I can easily afford a replacement
Recently I bought an Asus from Bestbuy for 549. A. The color is awesome, and I love the materials the keyboard is made out of. B. 500 GB, 4Gb Memory, webcam, Windows 7. C. Gets great reviews and numerous recommendations. I got it about a week ago, very happy with it so far.
