Call a local repair shop or two. Ask for their recommendations.

It's really up to you. I have previously used Sears, Maytag, and Samsung washers and dryers, of late I prefer Samsung, but they are likely all made in China, Japan, Korea, and elsewhere based on cost to produce. Most are likely very similar, visit a store and see what appliances you like.

I don't envy you. I would much rather buy an appliance from 15-20 years ago. They may not have been as efficient but they were built to last.

Check the reviews of the ones you like and also see how much an extended warranty is. New appliances are now disposable.

Good luck.

^^So true. We have 10 year old Frigidaire appliances and they all are starting to have problems. The Frigidaire repairman said most appliances made today have an average 10 year life span. Various parts of them come from various parts of the world. No company manufactures and assembles them 100% anymore in their own once only USA factory.

"Moving into a new home. What are the best appliances?"

Guess that depends on what YOU consider to be the "best".
Features, etc, that are important to me might not matter to you at all.

For what it is worth, we have LG washer, gas dryer, fridge, all 4 years old now. A new LG dishwasher because I have been so pleased with the other three and a new KitchenAid double oven. So far I have not regretted buying any of them and I hope it stays that way! I did lots of research but you see good and bad reports on everything so I went with the models that had features that I wanted and of course the prices I wanted!

Good luck

Frankly I'd ask your applaice repair guy if you have one. now days many are made by same company and often some of their brands better than others .Maytag use to be the best in wahsers and dryers but not now.I don't lie LG because mnay foreign brands are difficult to get parts for while other are carried locally. Sears brands are all different makers relabeled basically to Kenmore.I do know that Whirlpoll still assemble in US as far as their washers and dryers if that makes a difference.
