This forum may be the closest for the topic: discussion about holiday gifting. How many don't like the idea of having to spend too much money just to buy gift wraps, gift boxes, greeting cards... IOW things that have no substance? I wouldn't ask if those things are not overprices way beyond what it actually costs to make them.

Also, when do you start holiday shopping and what's your general strategy for giving gifts every year?

I just order everything on Amazon and select the gift-wrap option. It saves so much time.

I find it stressful to try and come up with gifts for people who really need nothing, like my mom! Or, when hubby asks what I want....and I don't want anything....but I have to tell him something, because he's bound and determined to get something....I hate the waste of money, just for the sake of "giving".....I really don't mind giving something I know is wanted or needed....it's all too stressful!!!

Agree. People often get gifts that they are not interested in. Some then re-package them and give them to someone else as gifts (who, in turn, may not like them either! And it could become awkward.). I think birthday presents make much more sense. When everyone exchanges gifts during this short period of time, busy people feel pressured to think of appropriate gifts in time to give to certain friends/acquaintances. It's really just a way for sellers and card/gift makers to make $$$.

Wasting money? I don't understand that one. Wasting time, I get. You can't really waste money.

I reuse gift bags...after everyone opens gifts, I neatly fold up any that are destined for the trash pile and take them home with me. Why waste? Why add to the landfill?

As for gifts, I usually shop throughout the year, but this year I waited until November. My family decided to stop giving gifts to adults and shopping for kids only, so my list was drastically reduced.
