You think the management is partly responsible for some postal working going " postal" ?
Plenty of people work at repetitive task besides being 800,000 workers at their peak strength so more likely to go postal more than any other employer before Wal-Mart expansion where else can you look?
One can get study guides with all the postal exams easily. Not much to passing if one does if you know the answers in advance.
It wasn't a matter of passing, it was getting the high score allowing for some with a Vietnam and then Gulf War veterans preference. It was like having to have straight A's to get to medical school. And since postal workers out earned school teachers and police sergeants in much of the country, in order to find New York City or San Francisco area workers, competition was fierce. It wasn't really a knowledge test it was just recognizing patterns and minor detail differences. As such it wasn't something study could help much at. You either recognized what was being tested for fast or you didn't.
In this day automation has taken over much of the detail task that was being tested for and the value the postal worker added has been minimized. I have often said, at least on a city carrier side of postal work a more fair test would be to give everybody a thirty pound satchel and tell them to start walking, whoever covered the most distance in 8 hours gets the job.
I've never had problems with USPS until the last few years. We frequently get the neighbors' mail, mail delivery past 6 pm, and most recently I didn't receive my w2 from the state. (Of course we get our taxes done early every year but I'm the only one who doesn't get their w2!) We have a locking mailbox at a SFR. Everyone else at my workplace got their w2's within one day of each other. (Last year my w2 had a big chunk torn out of it.)
My address has not changed in 10 years, and I've been at the same workplace for 25. The correct address is on file. What the heck? It wasn't returned to the state. Not happy about my personal info being out there somewhere.
I went to yelp and there are several similar stories about horrible carriers in our zip code. It sounded exactly like our guy. Maybe they're shuffling a bad employee around.
Newly hired carriers are moved around as needed. Presently veteran carriers are working mandatory overtime to cover vacancies. If a carrier moves either the service adjusted the routes in the zip code, at its worst if you keep one delivery point from the previous route the postal service considers it the same route, or the previous carrier used his seniority rights to transfer to a vacancy
The United States Postal Service lost my restricted delivery letter that only had to travel to a nearby county in Florida. It should have been delivered in 2 days it was mailed Jan 13. A week after it was mailed on Jan 20 it disappeared from tracking completely. I tried to file a claim and have gotten no answers. The post office that was it's destination has a long list if complaints about it online and their phone number doesnt work . I appear to be out that money. Still waiting for news it says on the website it is " delayed" .
Has anyone else had problems using USPS ?
Yes I had an odd problem about two years ago. I sent a safe deposit box key to my brother in another state. I sent the small package certified mail, return receipt requested and it took over one month for the package to be delivered. During that time I inquired several times with USPS and they had no way of tracking the package or determining where it was.
It was the first time I was ever disappointed in the USPS service.
Heh. They lost my passport applications with original documents for both my kids. Vanished. I will have to have ID theft protection on both kids the rest of their lives. Don't get me started on USPS.
