There's nothing exclusive about Whole Foods- it's basically all over the country but in the higher-income suburbs or hipper city-proper districts.

I prefer Whole Foods, they have a better selection.

Default Not a fan

Not a fan of Trader Joe's. The produce at the local one is of dubious quality, limited selection and expensive prices. Do they sell fresh meat or Seafood? There is no use for any of those frozen meals so that large part of their store does not appeal to my family. Many of the unique imported items are not so unique where I live and can be had for less.

It is really a store for Yuppies or people that do not know how to cook or people with a cooking identity crisis. When I go shopping for food I am looking for the components to construct my masterpiece, Trader Joe's seems to specialize in prefabricated lithograph copies. Like an artist looking to buy paint, canvas and wood, I just want to buy produce, spices, pastas and meats. Trader Joe's does not appeal to me.

Ugh... Got a TJ's about 20 miles from the homestead here in Northern Virginia, and I can't pass by that fricken place without stopping to see if they have any of the chocolate-covered pistachios. A few years ago as a Xmas present, I bought (and shelled) 5lbs of pistachios and mixed it with a pot of Hersheys semi-sweet and gave it to my Dad. He lives in the boonies of NM and has little access to "good" food.

I will forever bow in the general direction of TJ's. I don't get there often, but as it's near Costco we generally combine the trip. My wife loves the cut flowers they have there, and cuz I'm a cheap (and lazy) bastard (their flowers are cheaper, just farther away) I had to plant a flower garden so she can pick her own. Saves me time on the road!

Love Trader Joe's but I don't know anyone who buy produce there...its more for specialty, frozen, etc

Yes, we shop at Whole Foods and Wild Oats as well, but to me there is no comparison between the Whole Foods/Wild Oats and Trader Joe's. Trader Joe's is a supplemental store, the others have everything you may need for the week including bulk items, produce, etc

As with all other stores - you have to compare prices - some they are better on (eggs for instance I found in one instance). I do have to say I'm hooked on the French Truffles (free-trade) they sell there, OMG.

They also have very nice sales people (at least at my closest one) - I don't make a special trip there (unless I have a truffle-fix need lol) - but if you know prices - definitely worth checking out.

It might sound crazy, but I spread my shopping between Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, and a "regular" grocery store each week. The first two are my favorites, but there are many things that you just can't get at those stores.

If only all 3 were in the same plaza - now that would be amazing!
