I use it, but only started recently. It's okay, I have read it a few times, but haven't posted anything on it yet.
I'm sorry to hear, but It sounds like you had a really bad experience.
I had nextdoor for a while, but almost no one ever posted anything, I was about the only one posting anything, it was as dead as a fallen tree, I wound up just trashing the account, total waste of time.
Unfortunately I have found nothing but bullies and a disrespect for the Senior Citizens like myself. I actually think people set people up to get a reaction. Our community is full of younger people who rent. Most are not homeowners. I love the fact that animals are re-united but that's it. I will never go back ~ We have a wonderful Neighborhood Watch group so really do not need Nextdoor. Yes, I had a bad experience for sure. My sweet neighbor today said to me , "Kathy I know your heart I know you- you are a not a racist" She saw the post where I was ganged up on and she was appalled. She is Latino and she and her family are like family to us. We love our neighbors.
I'm on nextdoor. 90% of the posts are items for sale/requests for recommended service providers/people looking to provide services/lost pets, but it's also been useful to keep up with certain happenings (road construction, local issues). I found a weekly babysitter on nextdoor and also bought an item from another member. So my experience has been neutral/positive.
It obviously varies by location. I did finally join it- and in my area it's fairly decent as far as asking for recommendations for tradespeople etc but that is about it. There are a few Facebook groups for my town and those are a bit more active. I know I have friends in other areas where their town FB pages are really happening and very good resources. Mine not to much and the same with nextdoor. It's not bad, but hasn't really lived up to my hopeful expectations.
Going to go check it out again.

Hi Mayvenne: I think it depends on location for sure. I am actually disappointed because I think Nextdoor is not a bad thing. I don't mean to be so hard about it. It has hurt me a lot the way some of the folks gang up on you especially if they do not bother to read carefully what was posted.
Sometimes a poster comes along - starts a thread about something going on in and around Los Angeles on Nextdoor and it gets really ugly. We are community outside of City of Los Angeles. Unfortunately, I have learned that "some" of the residents are people I would never care to get to know due to how they treat others especially if you do not agree with them.
I love City Data Forums because the people here seem to be very kind - yes they have their opinions but they do not gang up and act like bullies. Also, this forum is run well. I give kudos to the folks monitoring the forums here.
Nextdoor is very pointless in my area, and we have thousands of members near my house. All I see is people complaining about speeders, asking if someone has a book (seriously?), and suspicious activity without enough details to be useful ("I saw a white guy I didn't recognize, walking by my house. Who was he?").
I get little to no value from it, but I keep it installed for the emergency situation that occurs once every 6 months (police searching area for a suspect, etc). Most people are sharing useful neighborhood information in Facebook groups.
I was able to find some great deals on good used furniture when my son bought a house. I also think it is helpful for lost pets and neighborhood emergency situations.
My biggest beefs are the rude people and the people that don't remove their posts when their item has sold. Having to scroll though 'old news' gets old.
We own homes in two states
Both neighborhoods have NextDoor memberships
The quality of the info varies
Some posters are very volitile
I'm thinking that's the nature of most community posting sights.
I'm on NextDoor for our neighborhood, and yeah, most of it is as previously described, but there are a couple of people who just seem to like to stir the pot.
We also have a piece of property out in the country, in a gated community, and we're on the community facebook page. Most people are just showing off pictures of the fish they caught, or whatever other fun stuff they did, or they're interested in buying or selling, stuff like that. But again, there's always a couple of people who like to be passive aggressive **** disturbers.
