There is some small item I want to buy ONLINE from IKEA to ship to my home (not for pickup). Does which local IKEA I select for my "shopping list" make difference? There are two near me, one shows item available, the other not available. Will my online order be shipped from whichever location I choose (thus I must choose the one that shows available), or does the location I choose only affect orders for pickup but not for home delivery (maybe home delivery are shipped from any warehouse all over?) I'm new to IKEA, quite confused.
Is the product available as an online order? Or does it say something along the lines of 'in-store only'? Showing items as available and not available usually only pertains to people who want to buy or pick up AT the store itself.
If it is available online for shipping to your home it really shouldn't matter which store you pick, they will send it from the nearest available shipping point. That could be from a nearby store or from a centralized warehouse, depending on how they do business.
OTOH they really don't say whether the item is available online or not. I ordered once and the item was missing from delivered package without explanation. After I contacted IKEA, they told me it's not available. But the item is still shown as if available and can still be placed in shopping cart to order.
And by the way, their phone service is terrible. I was on hold for some 25 minutes before a human picked up the phone, who told me it's always like that. I later read that I was actually lucky it was only 25 min. Others say it's never less than an hour before a rep answered your phone.
It's not unique to ikea, many companies do the same. Stores in the same chain do not all get serviced from the same whse, do not all carry the identical line of product, and do not always have a simple and inexpensive method of getting mdse from one store to another.
