I returned a Generac generator to Costco which I’d had for 5 years. It was not used very much, was well maintained, but started to leak gas and oil. I didn’t have my receipt.
When at my local store - not even where I bought it - I asked a manager if it was returnable under their policy. He looked up my account history (I spend a lot there), printed out a duplicate receipt and approved the return.
I’ll admit I felt slightly dirty even asking for the return, but Costco has their “satisfaction guaranteed” policy for a reason and my intent wasn’t to buy and return. I’m glad that they clamped down on electronics returns though...I knew several people who would perpetually upgrade their LCD TVs for free as the price came down and features improved.
Sorry to say but this post is a classic example of customer really abusing a generous return policy, In fact it's could be considered fraud since the product is not resalable as new.
I have returned fresh veg and meats at Costco weeks later without a receipt because the meats/veg were bad when I cooked them. This is will I will continue to shop at Costco.
Fresh vegetables are not supposed to last for weeks, of course they were bad when you cooked them. It is not the stores fault that you kept them around for so long.
And when Costco gets rid of their generous return policy, you'll only have yourself to blame.

I should have clarified.
I cooked the meats within 1-2 days of purchase and they were bad. But I did not have time to go to Costco for the refund until weeks later.
Target gave me the run around on a return about 10 years ago. I told them then that screwing me over on a $75 item would cost them who knows how much over the rest of my life. They didn't care and the manager was a bit of a smartass about the whole thing. I have not stepped foot in a target in 10 years and never will. Jerking me around on that legitimate return has cost them thousands in profit. 10 years later I still hold a grudge.
As for Best Buy, I have only bought a couple of things there. Their prices are always high and I always find a better deal on the identical product elsewhere.
I've never had a problem returning items to Target. I've probably returned about 25% of what I've bought from them- usually clothing. I only return items with tags and in perfect condition, along with the receipt.

I agree.

Same with the veg.
I have gotten bad meat a few times from a couple of stores over my many years of shopping. Each time it has happened I called the store as soon as I realized it and told them the problem. I also asked if they wanted the meat back as I could freeze it if they did. They told me no. I then take the name of the person I spoke with and write it on the receipt. My next time in and yes it is sometimes a week or 2 later I have all the info I need.
Only one time have I returned a veggie. It was pre packed broccoli slaw and the expiration date wasn't even close. I'm guessing the bags were left out in the heat.

So you bring cooked meat and produce back to the store? If A meal turns out bad, I would just throw it away. I would never have thought to take it back to the store. Especially produce, you see exactly what you are getting when you buy it.

Yeah you know way before cooking it that it is bad. It is either smelly, discolored or slimy...or all of the above, lol.
