I haven't vacuumed in a while because my cleaner is broke. I need something that will allow me to vacuum carpet and tile surfaces. Whats the best vacuum cleaner for this on the market?
For carpet, I like the traditional Hoover upright (with the paper bag, not the kind with just the cloth bag). For tile you can't beat a broom and dust mop.
Also it sounds like your cleaner needs to get a job then it will have some money. Though I am not clear why a vacuum cleaner needs money. Electrons, yes, but money?

I just bought a Bissell Crosswave but haven't had a chance to use it yet. I bought it because it vacuums and 'mops' at the same time. No more brooms or dust mops. It's also good for cleaning large area rugs. The smaller ones go in the washer, thankfully. I'll be using it in a couple of days and will come back and report on how it does. I did watch the infomercial on TV...AFTER I bought it...and was impressed but never know just what to believe. So, we shall see! I have all hardwood and tile floors so I sure hope it works well! If it works for those large area rugs I don't know why it wouldn't work for carpet as well.

Personally, I've gone through quite a few vacuums.
I had a really good vacuum years ago, a Kenwood Elite Upright vacuum. Until I met my now fiance and her dog destroyed it.
After that, I went through a myriad of cheap ones because I thought they would do, but none of them did.
I bought a Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Upright from WalMart... It lasted about 2-3 months and I just got sick of using it because it just wasn't doing the trick. It did a great job getting crud out of the corners and up against walls, - and it seemed to do really well on hard floor but kind of meh on carpet.
My Kenwood was the exact opposite, it did well on carpet but pretty horrible on hard floor.
Finally I decided to take a big hit to the wallet and bought a Shark Rotator Powered Lift-Away. I had a friend who had this before and I borrowed it one time and it worked amazingly.
So yeah, even though it cost a lot, I have no regrets and I'm glad I bought it. It is the best vacuum I have ever used for hard floor AND carpet.
Also the attachment you can get, the Mini Motorized Brush -it comes with some automatically but it didn't with ours so we had to buy it separately. It is definitely worth every penny if you have pets.
We have 3 dogs and 3 cats so it's quite a chore to vacuum up all the hair - especially on upholstery, so the mini motorized brush is a must.
Anyway that would be my recommendation. Shark Lift-Away is pretty good - they do have many different versions of this - some are better than others. The one I have is this one https://www.amazon.com/Rotator-Power...y+professional
But silver.

Get a decent vacuum that has the option to turn off the brush. I would think more of a tank type would do better on hard floors, smaller head like the Dyson canister.
I've never used one though. They are not inexpensive. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/reviews...w-iron/5485100
Eureka Mighty Mite Corded Canister Vacuum Cleaner is mine favourite. I purchased this 3 years ago and it still works quite well. This vacuum has good sucking power and has a sliding piece that can be opened or closed depending on how much power you need. I use it for everything - dusting, floors, carpeting etc. This really works great and exceeded my expectations on every level.
I've had two Sharks now and highly recommend them. Depending on what you want to spend they have a few different options. I just got a Shark Navigator Professional for $150 at Costco. It's excellent on both surfaces. If you want even nicer Costco sells a $300 Shark model with all sorts of fancy attachments and functions.
I was in the exact same position as you a few months ago. I needed something for both carpet and tile. After agonizing over this, compulsively researching, and hounding my friends for their vacuum experiences, I bought the Kenmore Progressive canister. It is not quite the one-step I thought it would be to switch from carpet to tile (you really need to change the attachment), but it's no big deal. I find the sucking power is very good, expecially on the tile floor and the retractable cord is awesome. I was used to an upright, so going to a cannister definitely takes some getting used to but I really do like it and think it cleans very well.
