I just bought (literally, like a few months ago) a new Samsung 6201 6 Series 55" Smart TV and I cracked the screen with a golf ball (I won't go into details...)

Is that "game over" for the TV? Is there any way I could salvage any of it, in any way?

TVs are so cheap nowadays that I'd just buy a new one. TV repairmen don't really exist any longer. It would most likely cost you more to try and fix it (if it's even possible). Not to mention time and frustration.

Yeah. I found that out the hard way. They are incredibly cheaply (in quality, hardware-wise) made.

I basically have a $500.00 55 inch paperweight, for all intents and purposes?

Well they're certainty not made to have golf balls thrown at them. If you take care of your TV, they can last a long time. My current TV has made it through 4 moves without a single problem. Looks the same as it did the day I bought it.

I agree - not sure how some folks think if they did something stupid the company should be responsible.

If you don't have an extended warranty/insurance that covers accidental damage that's your own fault (I do, and for the same tv, I think), I'd see what a tv repairman can do but be prepared to just buy a new tv.

I would imagine tv screens are basically the same as the screens on smartphones. The glass and actually panel will be tightly fused together to eliminate any gaps or air bubbles that would affect the PQ. I know on smartphones you can replace just the glass but it's an extremely delicate process and a high likelihood that the panel will get damaged in the process. It's a lot easier to just replace the glass and panel. And since the tv screen is only 1080p I suspect it's not that expensive for a replacement. I would call around and get estimates. You might be surprise.
