Like many W-M products, there was limited upgradeability (no spare DRAM slots, no open PCI-e sockets, limited SATA ports). But if it floats your boat as is, it was a super deal.
Game plan? Ha! My "game plan" is to avoid the whole thing! I'm not joining the hordes of maniacs who trample each other to buy a stripped down version of something they can't really afford.
FWIW, did you know that many products, especially electronics that are stocked up for black Friday are actually stripped down models? They look like the one they are comparing the regular price to, but they aren't really the same thing...they are missing many features.
Only in American do you give thanks one day for all you have and the very next day you get more stuff.
I'm just going to scan through the ads to see if there is anything there that I had been thinking /trying to get and was holding out in case the price went down. If not, I don't plan to go out unless the other half really wants to.
Soundbite - ATSC (OTA) standards for 4K TV UHDTV have not been finalized, so if your TV's decoder cannot be upgraded, it may become obsolete if/when broadcasters adopt 4K. Using a big wide screen TV as a computer monitor, close up, may present visual aberrations at the edges - will appear to bend away. Remedy : curved screen.
Black Friday Shopping...What's the Plan to Get the Best Deals
Wait til January when the best sales on.
Not anymore. I worked retail, and while January is the MYTH month to get so called good deals...its actually not. They know most folks get "gift cards" and do the ole " wait til January when the sales are the best!". What most brick and mortar stores are doing is "out with the old inventory" ...thats pretty much it. They'll take a hit on the write off and you the consumer think you got this superfluous deal!
I have zero desire to rush out that day...what I can produce under the christmas tree is not found in a store per se. Its wrapped in love and created the same way. Ohhh you bet I champion at knitting terrible sweaters...or a mitten that is missing a thumb! But its the thought that counts....
I already ordered online last week two gifts for the Grands because I knew if I waited...they wouldn't get here by christmas...I can't see the price going down on the items soooo..
Did you forget the Sweeping generalization flag on?
Models aren't 'stripped down,' so much as they are formats that cannot be easily upgraded.
For example, an HP Laptop might come with 4 GB DRAM, but there's an upgrade socket to add more.
Whereas, a BF HP Laptop might not have the upgrade socket, which saves $$$ over a large product run. But it still has 4 GB DRAM. No bits are stripped off.
Best deals:
Sears: Text turkey to 73277 to get $15 free cash good till 11/25. We both used it and got $30 in free vacuum bags. Also got a great deal of $10 each on holiday pillows. Some great deals on pants, mock turtlenecks (100% cotton) and some others. You can text gravy to 73277 to get $60 in freecash if you are spending over $500.
Kohls: 15% off plus $15 free cash for every $50 spent. I got some stuff and reserved some stuff until the free cash points come in on Nov. 24th. Everything worked out to a great price because the 15% off was even on the sales prices.
Zenni glasses: 20% off. Can't beat their regular price for progressive lenses and with 20% off it is an even more incredible deal.
Lands End: They have been having sporadic 50% off sales for months. If you get on their email list then you can usually get great deals any time. I got a squall dog jacket for $17, a stadium squall for half price (love a long insulated winter coat) and their No Iron Supima Solid Sheets which have arrived and seem fantastic quality.
