has significantly gone up after the romaine lettuce e. coli scare resulted in all romaine lettuce being pulled last month. Normally a head of iceberg costs around $1.29 in my region but has since doubled in price .
The news said it will take some time for prices to go down again after over-demand for iceberg. <sigh> This is depressing as I like putting iceberg lettuce in sandwiches. What do I do?

There's nothing you can do. Be glad you have it. I couldn't find iceberg at three Wegmans; that's when I stopped looking.

I bought iceberg lettuce the other week during the height of the romaine lettuce scare, and was actually expecting to pay a premium. I was shocked to find it still the same price. But yeah, now its 2.49. Typically it ranges in price from $1.19-$1.69. I always hate having to pay $1.69, so there's no way I'll pay $2.49. I'll just wait and plan other meals in the meantime. Or use other lettuce if it's a good price.

I have noticed the price of red and green leaf lettuce as well. Most of our stores are not carrying iceberg but do have red and green leaf: $3.79 a head. We went to lunch with a group yesterday and all the salads were made from raw spinach. Please someone, bring back our romaine

I'm getting romaine again in my area - but only the bagged 3-pack (which is what I always But anyway.). Iceberg was its regular price last week - $.99 to $1.49 depending on the store. Not organic.

Nice to have my local prices cheaper than other ateas. For once.

Dollar type stores that sell produce has them cheap. I would not know, though - I don't buy iceberg lettuce. Other than crunchiness, it has near zero nutritional value, and for this price it's a waste of money. Buy greens that are actually healthy.

Regular price here is 2.99/head. We import from California and South America.
