I completely agree. Or somehow it was lost in the mail although another was delivered quickly.

This is the same for consumer ratings in general - when I read the 1 or 2 star reviews of products on other sites, too, though.

Sometimes it will get a 1 star and the person will say loved it, would buy it again! because they don't understand the star rating system.

I do find that the amazon product reviews tend to be correct - if they say the shoes run small, they run small.

And I really don't care - at all - that a hotel front desk clerk didn't seem excited you were checking in.

Not amazon... but I bought a small product from Walmart.com - it was sold by another company, not Walmart. When I received the item, included in the package was a note saying that if you wrote them a positive review on walmart.com they would send you another item for free. On the reviews for this item, there was no note about them being from a promotion or anything, and guess what- nearly all the reviews were positive. They seemed realistic though. Thankfully it was only a few dollars and the product was ok.

Sellers on Amazon do the same thing. Amazon has, in recent years, tried to delete those reviews or at least make the reviewers include the fact that they were offered something in return for a positive review. I like walmart.com much better than Amazon nowadays but I think walmart.com should implement the same policy.
