Looking for new queen mattress. Reasonably priced. Looking for one with little movement so when we move in bed or get out of bed my husband and I aren’t disturbing the other. Crazy how much to pick from. Looking for something also with little smell.
Although well beyond the $600 you had mentioned, we have owned a California King Sleep Comfort mattress at our Albuquerque home for many years and it is one of the most comfortable mattresses I have ever slept on.
I'll be watching for recommendations here. Here at our Texas farm I need to replace an extremely hard queen mattress that you could shoot pool on if it had side pockets. However like you, I also don't want to break the bank.
Unfortunately, nobody can actually tell you what you want to know. You can't compare brands as stores all rename the mattresses, mattress preference is very different by different people, one person wants "comfy" (what does that mean?) - someone else might sleep hot, another might want to be warm and cushioned, for some reason mattress companies have decided to not make flippable mattresses anymore (well, there is one that I know of but it's a Pa. company) - because they want you to have to spend more $$$$$$$$ to replace the mattress more often.
All you can do is visit a ton of places, figure out what firmness, etc. you want and do the same for a bunch of other companies - Why I personally have put off doing this. Good luck.
Unfortunately a good mattress is spendy (well too spendy in my opinion). You really get what you pay for. My wife and I opted for a mattress that was more expensive than our initial budget but we took advantage of the 2 years same as cash and made monthly payments.
A comfortable mattress is worth anything, but everyone has a price point. If I were you, I’d look into foam mattresses, they don’t transfer movement and Amazon and Overstock have some in every price range. You can also read the reviews, which are helpful. I’ve slept on a guest room Leesa mattress, and it’s pretty comfy.
We used to just buy the mattresses from IKEA, same place where we got our beds. They’re ok if you don’t mind the firmness. They’re a little too soft for us. Test them in their stores to see if they're good for you.
When it came time to replace them, we went to Mattress Firm to see what they have. They have a mattress for every budget so I would check them out. Don’t believe the marked prices. It’s ridiculous and I don’t know why they do this. But those prices are deliberately marked up. I guess they try to make you feel good about your purchase when the salesman inevitably gives you a steep discount.
It isn't true that flippable / two sided / double sided mattresses are not made any more. Go to U.S. Mattress online. They ship and remove your old mattress. I'm trying to decide whether to use them or perhaps Macy's. Although Macy's does not carry two sided mattresses.
I bought this for my spare room queen bed and guests like it. For the few times I've slept in it (when either my wife or I were sick) I felt it was a little firm for my taste so I ended up adding a small topper. It says $289 but when I bought it I paid $189.
Here's another one by the same company that is highly rated.
As to "smell", most foam mattresses smell for the first day or so. But I don't find it to be a problem after then.
I'm not sure I'd pay thousands for any mattress anymore with all of these direct-ship options.
