Since you are asking about immoral and potentially illegal abuse, why not just go all the way? Just go to CA and steal it. So long as the value is under $950 in the unlikely chance you get caught, the worst you will get is a ticket. Ain't america great!

A lot of stores tightened up their return policies due to people who buy things in their stores to flip on amazon and ebay. They buy the item, list it, and if it doesn't sell, they return it to the store for a full refund.
What does your conscience tell you? Would you want anyone to do this if the roles were reversed?
You took the words from my mouth. Since it is legal to temporarily buy and return items from stores that have to offer competitive return policies to stay in business, it is a matter of personal conscience, to exploit the privilege. Over the years, I've returned a few cameras to large dealers, but it was for good reasons, such as poor performance or defects.
I have a very old and slow laptop which hampers my daily productivity incredibly. However, I cannot afford to buy a new one. Local big chain stores in my area have a generous return policy that says that if you purchase a laptop you can return it and get 100% refund as long as this is done within 2 weeks.
So being that I'm broke, need a faster laptop, and have stores that are practically offering it for free as long as I return it undamaged is it unethical to go from store to store and use their laptops for free, taking it back before the return period expires?
....afterall, this is technically legal and very well meets the stores own policies. Something tells me that their's a catch that I'm not seeing.
Of course there could be a catch that you're missing.
You need the initial few hundred dollars to even buy it. Cash is better because they give you cash back. If a credit card, it will take a few days to credit back unless you pay for it with your debit card number.
You're going to be wasting gas
You may run into a store that will charge you a restocking or loss fee.
Go to Facebook marketplace and see who's selling a decent used laptop. Lots of people strapped for cash this time of the year.

So, OP, you plan on doing this for the rest of your life? Just how many electronics stores are in your area that you wouldn't run out pretty quickly, having to go through them in two-week increments? Or are you planning on driving hours to get to the next one?
And which will be passed on to other shoppers, but of course that won't affect you so you don't care...
Of course not. Just once. By the way, I never said that I was gonna do it. Just theoretically speaking, trying to see what's what.
