I bought a crib mattress in Ikea for my 2nd child in 2014 and has been until recently continued using it for my 3rd cold until I came across an Ikea website saying my mates was a recalled item already in 2015. I had no idea about this, according to them there had been 2 deaths from this item. Since my Ikea store is kind of far from where I live, I bought a new mattress somewhere else right away. Now I finally came to Ikea to return the recalled item and they said they could only give me store credit. Is this how returning a recall works? Because in my opinion it doesn't make sense.
You bring it back to the store. Store credit is sometimes offered if the recall was issued years ago.
"The crib mattresses could create a gap between the mattress and crib ends larger than allowed by federal regulations, posing an entrapment hazard to infants."
Was it ever any issue to you? Did you use it with the IKEA crib? Did you check if the gap is actually larger than the width of two fingers between the ends of your crib and the mattress?

So you used it for FIVE years past the recall and waited until you no longer needed to attempt to get a refund? You're lucky that they even gave you a store credit.
