Does anyone know what the substitution price policy is for pickup orders? The website doesn't specifically say. I'm not sure if they have their own rules or if they follow Instacart's rules.

It looks like Instacart simply charges for the price of whatever item is substituted. Some other stores that don't go through Instacart will charge whatever is the lowest price of the two items.

I tried calling Food Lion's 800 number but the wait time was too long. I've tried calling the local store and the number is usually busy.

I recently did a food pick up at Walmarts. They emailed me about the items to be substituted, & once I went to pick up, the delivery person, asked if the subs were OK. They worked for me.

I imagine they will try & contact you if there is a need for a sub.

I was hoping to know how it worked before I place my next order. I have used Food Lion's pick up service, but so far this hasn't been an issue. But then I came across something somewhere that made me wonder about it. If I definitely have to pay the price of the substitution, then I won't check the substitution box when ordering. Maybe I'll try calling another Food Lion store.
