With all the price gouging and increases of chicken breasts, steaks, etc. The price of seafood actually have not changed very much for more than a year.

I'm buying wild salmon for about $9.99/lb, wild caught large shrimp for $11.99/lb, lobster that fluctuated between $3.99- 7.99/lb, and Stone crab in season for only $3.99/lb. The list goes on that it has been great buying seafood during the pandemic while I watch people snap up all the chicken breasts, pork ribs, and steaks.

Huh? Chicken and pork rib prices have increased? Not where I shop. Most of our grocers sell chicken breasts at $1.99/lb all the time, occasionally decreasing that price for a sale. I bought baby back ribs at $1.99/lb in sale just last month. I rarely buy the breasts - give me chicken thighs, please. But I buy ribs often.

King crab legs have risen in price to a ridiculous level, and I can't even find the collasals. (DH has requested them for our 25th anniversary this week, or else I'd absolutely, positively refuse to pay those prices!)

ETA: I'm not buying organic, grass fed, local farmed, free range or any of that stuff.)

Prices ... of chicken and pork
Came back down to pre covid costs last summer
I bought bnls chicken breasts on sale for
1.29lb
And pork has been on sale for .99lb

And I bought 8 turkeys right before
Thanksgiving for .39lb

Keep in mind ... sales are up big time
In grocery stores ( a sense of security is a full pantry and freezer)
Since less people going to restaurants
Also in times of high anxiety people are eating and drinking well
Last year our stores sold 3x as many rib eyes than the prior year

Seafood sold well ... lobsters have sold well which is good for the lobstermen!!

I’m pushing seafood sales ... many stores are lowballing retail at costs
Just to push more.. Lenten starts tomorrow I believe and more
Seafood will be selling !!

My point is that while meats have gone up and came down but seafood prices stayed relatively the same throughout the pandemic. There was an abundance of lobsters due to restaurants not buying them anymore so I've gotten $3.99/lb lobsters and $6.99/lb lobster tails.

Seafood prices are mainly driven by the cost of fuel and availability.

So is any produce. But demand is always the common factor.

Maybe it's just my area but since around Aug 2020 I can't find salmon. Fresh never, frozen occasionally and it's that skinless boneless stuff, and the canned salmon has really gone up in price. I could live on salmon otherwise. I really miss it!

Occasionally I find sole fillets, frozen for about $10/lb.

Chicken is the same around here. Sometimes Aldi will have chicken breasts for $1.69/lb.

Beef is way up. I rarely eat beef anymore.

Seafood is up slightly, as is pork - except for bacon, which is ridiculously priced.

The local Kroger affiliate had split chicken for $0.69/lb last week and it was quite excellent. They have pork butt for $1.29-1.49/lb last week but two months ago, the price was $0.99 or less.

I have been buying 80-/20 ground beef at the local Asian market for $1.79/ lb (Lee lee's Tucson and Asiana Market, Mesa, AZ).

Bacon has been on sale for $3.49 at both Kroger and Safeway and $3.98 at Walmart.

It has been my experience that the people who squawk the most at prices are those who limit their shopping to one store or who do not wait to sales when buying meat.

That's weird, Salmon is so plentiful but I only buy wild Coho salmon for $10/lb at Costco. Recently Costco is selling Chilean Seabass for $15.99/lb, it's delicious.
