I particularly like this because of this particular moment in time. Covid is still a problem, the postal mail has been deliberately slowed, and supply-chain problems are leading to shortages of the "hot" items.

This person is talking about avoiding new things, but even if it's new, why don't people skip the trendiest items and exercise a little creativity? Why not support your local stores that probably desperately need the income, and not make Jeff Bezos even richer?

How to Buy Nothing New This Holiday Gifting Season
By Annaliese Griffin

Global supply-chain problems might cause shortages of the season’s “it” toys or tech gadgets, but they do not have to ruin the holidays. Instead of rushing to the stores or filling your online shopping cart early, perhaps this is a time to question the annual marketing drive telling us that we must start spending now and keep spending through December to manifest a Christmas morning of abundance and cheer.

I agree. We bought less last year than the year before, and the adult kids did not mind. This year, we are looking at using the money on events and trips as opposed to goods. With the exception of Foods.
Food items make better gifts, in our family at least, and we always include a chocolate rum cake or santa cookies under the tree.

Too late for me to buy nothing. I've already purchased three new tree ornaments and a pack of blank cards to DIY.

But I do LOVE thrift stores!

My son and I exchange a gift or two. That's it. Useful or consumable is the order of the day. This year he is giving me a complete brake job for my car. He bought all of the necessary parts and fluid and is doing the work himself. Now that's the sort of gift that I like to get. I'll bake a couple of things for him and buy a bonzer bottle of Scotch.

I like this idea.

Gifts that create memories and experiences are my favorite.
But I also like practical - useful things and books.
